Northern Lights Hands-On Diesel Engine Class

Northern Lights Diesel Engine Class

Here are the details of the classes:

Objective: Students will gain first hand knowledge of marine diesel engines, systems, proper operation and routine maintenance. Learn to diagnose and resolve the most common mechanical and electrical challenges encountered when cruising.

Engines disassembly and assembly – a look inside

Maintenance – avoiding repairs and problems

Safety – protecting yourself & preventing injuries

  • Cooling system: freshwater & seawater
  • Lubrication
  • Electrical
  • Emission

Diagnostics, trouble shooting tips, tricks, and things you can do yourself

  • Smoke & steam in the exhaust
  • Leaks – what they mean, what to fix
  • Vibration & chafing problems – preventing surprises
  • Work arounds when you don’t have the special tool

Class #1: 3 – 4 May 2011 –  Seattle, WA (Full)
Class #2: 17 – 18 May 2011 – Seattle, WA (Full)
Class #3: 7 – 8 June 2011 – Deerfield Beach, FL (Full)
Class #4: 9 – 10 June 2011 – Deerfield Beach, FL

Course Duration: Two days, 8 am – 5 pm

All classes begin promptly at 0800 and finish at 1700 with 45 minutes for lunch. Refreshments and lunches are provided by Northern Lights.
