St. Augustine

Our month in St. Marys was fun. We visited both Linda’s and Ken’s families. We thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and camaraderie of the Cruiser’s Thanksgiving, and met a lot of friends, both new and old. And it is good to be underway again.
The trip from St. Marys to St. Augustine was a long day. We had considered going outside but wanted to visit friends in Daytona (the Daytona inlet is not good) and the winds were blowing from the south — wrong direction. We traveled with Slow Dancin’–friends Ken and Joy from years ago at Herrington Harbour–and enjoyed the trip. The St. Johns river was a little squirrely, but we really enjoyed looking at the homes and their docks along the ICW, especially Palm Valley. Once moored, we had drinks, pleasant conversation, and dinner with Ken and Joy.
The Florida ICW (so far) is considerably wider and deeper than the portions from the Chesapeake to St. Marys, making it much easier on the helmsman. For those of you in the northeast, our high/low temperatures were 81 and 57. We had a mainly overcast day with a few light sprinkles in the mid-afternoon.

Seas 2 Day

Thanksgiving

Well, we had a change of plans. Instead of leaving this morning, we decided to stay here and have our Thanksgiving dinner. Byron and Donna who both work at the marina and live across the street, invited all of us on the dock to their house for “lunch…

Seabrook on Clear Lake (Still in Texas, but not for long)

Well, it’s rather early on Monday morning and I can’t sleep.  It got very warm and humid yesterday after being otherwise nice and cool and breezy for the past few days.  If the past reflects the future, we will have rain in the short term.&nb…

aCappella

Thankful

Today was our first holiday on the boat. In the past we’ve either been at our land-based home in Maine or at my folks. We had to settle on a turkey breast rather than the whole bird as that’s all that would fit in the stove. Still the meal was as good …

Thursday, Nov 25 We spent Turkey Day in Tarpon Springs

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.  We took a walking tour around Tarpon Springs.  Neat little town.  Very Greek.  Had a great lunch at Hellas restaurant.  Dottie had the traditional Turkey and Larry had Grouper.

The town was…

The Louisiades Part 2

So its taken a little longer… . . . .
15th September
During the  last 24 hours at sea we encountered many ships on their way through the Jomard Passage. This is the major shipping channel for ships transitting through PNG to the Southern Hemisph…

More sites from the Sunshine State

Hi to all of our followers.  We have been enjoying all the sites and scenery if Florida.  We both thought that Michigan had a lot of lakes and water, but after you have really traveled in Florida in a boat can you appreciate the many waterway…

Some engine room work

Felt like a break from working with wood for a while so I did a little work in the engine room. I cut some lift-out panels in the deck plates so that we can access the keel cooler and other plumbing without pulling up the whole panel. I finished insta…

Safely back in Marmaris marina

Di and I are really well, and on Monday 15 we berthed in Marmaris marina for the winter, ending our 2010 cruise of 168 days and 1,782 nautical miles. It’s a great feeling to have returned safely without any major dramas – the only serious technical p…

Wednesday, Nov 24 We made it across the Gulf to Tarpon Springs

We departed Dog Island about 1 PM on Tuesday, Nov 23.  As soon as we rounded the east end of the island, we began to encounter 4 to 5 foot waves.  The short video clip below shows what the seas were like.  Click on the arrow at the botto…
