Ithaca’s slogan is ‘Ithaca is Gorges’. The town of Ithaca has four gorges that were carved out by glaciers millions of years ago and there are more waterfalls through these beautiful gorges than a hiker can count. Reports say there are over 150 waterfalls within 10 miles. We’ve seen many and have literally stopped counting. Welcome to the land of gorges, waterfalls and outdoor beauty. To a community of academics, artists and adventurists. We have truly fallen in love with this area of New York.

Summer has truly arrived and we had a great weekend at a house just a mile from the marina. It was a nice place to celebrate Brytanie and Graham’s birthday and it put us close to all the things we like to do in Ithaca.

“Granddaughters are angels sent from above to fill our hearts with unending love.” –Unknown
One of the best parts of being in Ithaca for the summer is the time we get to spend with our Pennsylvania grandkids. The very special part is having each come on their own to spend time on The Pearl. They have a wonderful time and so do we.
May 29 – Girls Day at the Winery
“Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” —Unknown
Some of the ladies at the marina and a few of their friends have started a new tradition…girls day at Buttonwood Grove Winery. Last year it was dreary and cold, but we made the best of it. This year we had a picture perfect day. We spent four hours enjoying the sun, the music, the wine, good food, great company and lots of laughter.

“I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to family life.” –Barbara Bush
Let the summer season begin…although here in upstate New York spring is only beginning. The summer season isn’t just about what temperature it is outside, but the feeling we have when we’re here. We look forward to new adventures, time with family and enjoying our beautiful surroundings.
Back to Our Summer Home
“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.” -Walt Disney
This is our twelve year to head east for the season. Leaving Texas and heading to the east coast gives us a chance to enjoy two springs each year. After spending a week driving to Pennsylvania we spent four nights at our son’s house, collecting lots of hugs and having fun playing with our grandwonders.
April 22-24 Bradstown, KY
“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” –Maya Angelou
Our second stop on our way north for the season was Bardstown, KY. We love to explore little out of the way small towns and when they’re labeled the “Most Beautiful Small Town in America”, well we’re truly interested. Bardstown is also known as the “Bourbon Capital of the World” and is home to nine notable distilleries including Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam and Bardstown Bourbon Co. We spent our day wandering through the shops in town and visiting a couple of distilleries.
April 19-22 Hot Springs, AR
“Without new experience, something in us sleeps. The sleeper must awaken.” –Anonymous
Spring has arrived in south Texas and summer is quickly moving in, so it’s time for us to begin our migration north. This spring we are taking a little detour through Arkansas and Kentucky…exploring a few new places on our way first to Pennsylvania and then up to the lake to get The Pearl ready for another season.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area offers visitors a chance to get out and explore. You can hike, camp, backpack, rock climb or just enjoy a picnic and take in the amazing views of Enchanted Rock, Little Rock and Turkey Peak. Enchanted Rock is a pink granite mountain located north of Fredericksburg, Texas. It’s the largest pink granite monadnock in the United States. The granite dome rises 425 feet above the surrounding terrain to an elevation of 1,825 feet and offers amazing views of the Texas Hill Country as far as the eyes can see.
April 5-9 Texas Hill Country Getaway
“Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.” -Tracy McMillan
We kept our Pennsylvania grands in October while Kyle and Brytanie took a much needed vacation. As a thank you for our nannie serves they gave us a gift card for the Sage Hill Inn & Spa near Kyle, Texas. We decided we’d save our getaway until spring, so we could enjoy the spring weather and the wonderful wildflowers Texas has to offer in April. The Inn sits atop a hill on 88 acres above Onion Creek, with sweeping views of the Hill Country to the West.
