April 28 – Alexandria, VA

Old Dominion Boat Club

“To travel is to breathe in the air of unimaginable places, taking in all the beauty the world has to offer.” —Kiana Azizian

We’re in Alexandria for a few days to explore, relax and catch up with friends. We haven’t been up the Potomac River since we spent a week in Washington, DC in 2011. We spent that week running, taking in everything we could…this time we are going to explore a more leisurely pace. Today we just wandering around Old Town taking in the architecture and having a great lunch at The Wharf

April 26 – Let the Season Begin

“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” —John A. Shedd

We’ve finished all our boat projects and moved out into the sunshine yesterday. Our cruising season begins today…first destination is up the Potomac to Alexandria. Let the fun begin.

The Pearl in the shed…a great place to store the boat, but not a good place to live.

The Pearl out in the sunshine and ready to cruise

One last look at Olverson’s as we left this morning.

April 18 – Work, Work, Work

Olverson’s Lodge Creek Marina

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” ~Willie Nelson

Just a quick post to update everyone on all the fun we’ve been having since we returned to the boat two weeks ago. We both have been working very hard on projects, putting in 8 to 10 hour days, but Stan has really been the one doing the hard work. I took a little break to return to Pennsylvania to spend Easter with our family while he stayed behind and refinished the salon floor.

April 9 – Boat Projects

Olverson’s Lodge Creek Marina

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” ―Dr. Seuss

We’ve been back onboard for four days and we’ve been very busy. Here at Olverson’s we are docked in a covered slip. It makes doing some projects easier but the lack of light makes it hard to see. The lack of sunshine on the boat also keeps us cooler…not a bad thing in the summer, but this time of year it’s a little cold without those wonderful rays of light to warm the cabin. So, we are working hard to finish projects as quickly as we can so we can move to a new location. Here are some of the things we’ve been working on.

April 6 – We’re Back

Olverson’s Lodge Creek Marina

“I don’t mind being gone…it’s the leaving I don’t like.” –Susie Marshall

People think when we go back to the east coast we’re going on vacation. It’s not a vacation…it’s just life. We’re going back to our home…lots of people have two homes. Rockport is full of winter Texans, when the weather up north gets cold they come south…when the weather begins to warm up in Texas we head back to The Pearl. We enjoy the variety that having a place on the east coast and in Texas offers.

Summer Plans

Sadly we had to say good bye to our family in Pennsylvania this morning. We headed north to Ithaca, New York to check out the the town and the Allan Treman State Marine Park. Our plan is to take The Pearl up the Hudson, through the Erie Canal and into Cayuga Lake for the summer. It’s a beautiful place and will give us a chance to explore a new area while staying close to family.

First Fishing Trip

“No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” —Abraham Lincoln

We’re back on the east coast, but before we return to The Pearl we made a stop in Pennsylvania to visit your oldest son and his family. We love cruising and spending time on the water, but the time we spend with our grand children is priceless. We’ve enjoyed seeing our Texas grands regularly the past six months and will truly miss them, but now it’s time to see our east coast grands a little more.

The Ranch

“The days that make us happy make us wise.” —John Masefield

We spent Monday and Tuesday with good friends from our past…work, children and life put our friendship on the back burner for the past 25 years. It’s been fun this year reconnecting.

Bahamas Day Dreams

“Paradise is always where love dwells.” ―Jean Paul

It seems like all the cruisers are either in the Bahamas or on their way this month…making me long for the crystal clear water, beautiful deserted beaches and the slow tranquil life of the islands. As wonderful as it would be in the Bahamas we’ve been enjoying our time at home.
Treasure Cay – Abaco
The best part of taking a break from cruising is the time we get to spend with family…especially our little grand children. We’re enjoying playtime, walks, exploring, hugs, kisses, story time and sleep overs with our little wonders. It’s an incredible way to spend the winter…and the temperature here in south Texas aren’t bad either. It’s been a moderate winter and with most days in the 60s and 70s…just the way I like it.
It’s not the Bahamas, but our beach isn’t bad.
When we start missing time on the water and our minds start wandering to the islands…we take Texas Pearl out for a short cruise or we go for a walk on the beach that is just outside our front door. The Bahamas do look wonderful and I’m enjoying everyone’s photos, but life at home is good and we’re soaking in all the family time we can.

We’ll be returning to The Pearl the beginning of April to do projects on the boat and get it ready for our seventh season of cruising…so stay turned for details!
