“No matter where I go, travel is my destination!” —Anonymous

We spent the day playing…Stan went fishing with Magnus and I went shopping with Charlotte. We all had a great time. The guys caught a lot of fish and Charlotte and I restrained ourselves to just a few purchases. This evening Stan and I enjoyed a visit to Pearlz, but it just isn’t the same without the crews of Amici and Gallivant. The following is a post from our visit in 2013…a little history lesson for the day.

Beaufort, SC History Lesson

Today was our last day in Beaufort and we spent it being lazy and enjoying the park…again. We also took a walk and looked at some of the beautiful homes, one more time. There is a ton of history in this town so I thought I’d share a little with you. If you’re not a fan of history you may want to skip this post.

Cruiser’s talk a lot about weather…I hope it doesn’t bore my blog readers. It’s a big part of cruising. Although it’s been very windy this week we’ve had beautiful weather for the most part and today was spectacular. We spent most of the day in the park just relaxing and soaking up the warm sunshine and what a great place it was to do it.

The sun returned today and we had temperatures in the low 70s…a perfect day to ride bikes and enjoy a festival. We took the Spanish Moss Bike Trail back to Port Royal to enjoy the Soft Shell Crab Festival. Neither of us are real fans of soft shell crabs, but we did enjoy some other good seafood for lunch.

We knew today’s weather was going to be lousy…rain, wind and chilly. A good day to lie around, watch old movies and work on my pine needle baskets. It sounded like a good plan, until Stan realized the generator wasn’t working properly. Up came the floor in the salon so he could diagnose the problem. Thirty minutes later he had replaced a few blown fuses and we were back in business.

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” —Thornton Wilder

Stan and I both enjoy being on the water and we both like when we are moving along to new places, but it also feels nice to stay for awhile in one spot. It means we can have a slower mornings enjoying our coffee and watch things come alive on the water…that’s the kind of morning we had today.

Miserable people focus on what they hate about their life. Happy people focus on what they love about their life. ― Zig Ziglar

The weather further north is still a little cool, so we are going to hang out in Beaufort for a week…relaxing and do a little exploring. Beaufort is rich in history dating back to the 1500’s. After the Revolutionary War Sea Island cotton was introduced to this area and brought rapid increase in plantations and slaves, new wealth provided Beaufort elegant homes, fine libraries and some of the best preparatory schools in the south. So many men of state and national prominence were produced, that antebellum Beaufort was described as the “wealthiest most aristocratic and cultivated town of its size in America”.

“Let the sea breeze blow your hair, let the sunset bring tranquility to your heart, let the distant places you travel allow you to explore yourself.” —Somya Kedia

Today we woke up to drizzling rain but there was no wind, so it meant it was a good traveling day. We shoved off in our rain gear…after enjoying our free Krispy Kreme doughnuts provided by the marina. They taste so good and seem so light when you eat them, but a little later you feel like you have a lead weight sitting in your stomach. Good thing we decided against staying here for a week.
