Hope Town Inn and Marina, Elbow Cay

Date: 4-4-2014, Friday:
Took the free fairy across the harbor to Hope Town Settlement and checked out all the sights. Had lunch at Captain Jack’s and came back to the boat and went to the pool and sat with Keith and Jo from Dream Weaver. Had fresh Stone Crab for dinner. We bought them from a local guy over at Marsh Harbour Marina. They were very good but we really had to work hard to get at the meat as the shells were very hard.

Date: 4-5-2014, Saturday:
Took the dinghy out and explored Elbow Cay some this morning and early afternoon. Went down to White Sound and to Tahiti Beach. Walked the beach, got a few shells, and came back to the marina and had a late lunch at the pool. Fixed lobster for dinner.

April 4 – Jacksonville, FL

Ortega Yacht Club Marina

“If you don’t know where you’re going, any road’ll take you there”―George Harrison

It looks like we’ll be spending a few more days in Jacksonville…although today was a beautiful spring day, the next several may be stormy. We really have no place we need to be at a given time, so we will just hang around here to the first of the week.

Today we visited with friends we first met in Waterford, NY in 2012. They have a nice place on the St. John’s River a few miles north of Jacksonville. We had great dinner at the Sandollar Restaurant over looking Mayport and the St. John’s River. We enjoyed catching up with Barbara and David, getting to see their place and getting some local knowledge about the river. It sounds like there are a lot of beautiful out of the way places to explore.

Stan finished waxing the haul today.

St. John’s River Light built in 1858 and located on the grounds of Naval Station Mayport. Our view with dinner.

The St. Johns River Ferry connects the north and south ends of Florida State Road A1A. It shuttles cars from Fort George Island to Mayport Village.

Hobie Alter – Surfer Dude, Marketing Whiz, Savvy Businessman, and All Around Good Guy – Gone at 80.

We’ve just learned that Hobie Alter has caught the ultimate wave, and left his earthly friends and family behind. We were friends, competitors, and collaborators with this remarkable man, and thought a few anecdotes might be in order. We originally got to know Hobie through Phil Edwards and Mickey Muñoz, two catamaran racing buddies. Hobie […]
