Next month this 21 year old graduates as a mechanical engineer.  Her hard work earned her better grades than her dad and I couldn’t be any prouder. She has accepted a full-time position at General Dynamics and will start this summer.  It’s ironic that I will be officially retiring from this company (finally 65) in the same year she is starting!

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, CA is a popular tourism destination, with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains on the other. The city has excellent restaurants and accommodations, wonderful hiking in the mountains, and water activities in the offshore Channel Islands. Those are sufficient enough attractions for us to go, but…

April 8 – Hiking at Enchanted Rock

“The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.” ― Arthur C. Clarke
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area offers visitors a chance to get out and explore. You can hike, camp, backpack, rock climb or just enjoy a picnic and take in the amazing views of Enchanted Rock, Little Rock and Turkey Peak. The granite dome rises 425 feet above the surrounding terrain to an elevation of 1,825 feet and offers amazing views of the Texas Hill Country as far as the eyes can see.

Gear We Like: LOQI Bag

Living aboard while travelling the world often involves opportunistic shopping. If we see something we want or need, it’s best to just buy it on the spot. We never know if we’ll return to the same store, or if that product will still be available when we do. One way we make this work is…

April 5-9 Texas Hill Country Getaway

“Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.” -Tracy McMillan

We kept our Pennsylvania grands in October while Kyle and Brytanie took a much needed vacation. As a thank you for our nannie serves they gave us a gift card for the Sage Hill Inn & Spa near Kyle, Texas. We decided we’d save our getaway until spring, so we could enjoy the spring weather and the wonderful wildflowers Texas has to offer in April. The Inn sits atop a hill on 88 acres above Onion Creek, with sweeping views of the Hill Country to the West.

Franklin Falls

Franklin Falls, just west of Snoqualmie Pass, gush 70 ft (21m) over a cliff into a pool below, with a narrow hiking trail that leads almost underneath. The falls are spectacular in the spring runoff, but even more so after particularly cold winter weather, when icicles encrust the cliff face. We’d been wanting to see…

Queen Anne

Queen Anne Hill, at 456 feet (139 m) high, is the highest named hill in Seattle and easily visible from our apartment. Three large red-and-white broadcast towers, landmarks in the city that are visible for miles, stand atop the hill and make it even more prominent. After an 1875 windstorm flattened many of the trees…
