Sunset in Mallory Square

A Month in Marathon, FL

A month spent in Marathon, Florida snorkeling, owl spotting, strolling the docks, and watching the bed races. Annie got a daily walk around the back nine of the golf course. There is a 1 1/2 mile road around the course and we walked it daily. Not much traffic and there were lots of interesting houses, plants and other people and dogs walking, jogging and biking also. The daily highlight was the Owl count. Alongside one of the holes there were a pair of Burrowing Owls. Almost every morning there were two Owls standing beside the burrow. Sometimes only one, most days two and then one day one flew off and another one popped up out of the ground so there were three that day.

Engine Maintenance

Winter 2009-2010In the past, I’ve had moderate success extracting the oil via the dipstick. I’ve never been able to extract it via the extraction tube. While winterizing this year, I had no success, period. I tried my electric oil change pump, a Jab…

Sea Strainer Gasket

July, 2009Uuuuuuuuugh. On our way back from DC, we anchored overnight in an area with lots of weeds on the surface. Before getting underway, I opened the sea strainer to clean it out. When I closed it back down, I apparently crushed the old (and bri…

Screened

June, 2009I despise mosquitoes. Seriously. We inherited some window screens from the prior owner that have mostly kept the bugs at bay (pun?), but they haven’t been doing the job lately. The old screens were pretty simple – just fabric screening with …

Hoppy Easter

This is Bridget’s best wabbit impression. She wasn’t keen on donning the buck teeth and pink nose, but she is cute. We are having a quiet day. May go to the market, but clouds are heading this way, so we’ll see. We are having lamb chops for supper…

Anchoring in Hawks Channel

We knew when we departed Key West that our options were largely limited to anchoring out each night. If your desire is to marina hop, unless your speed is faster than ours, it is hard to find options that work with our draft and an easy days’ range. Th…

Northbound to Great Bridge, Va. for the night. Then, maybe Norfolk Naval Station Marina for a few days to wait out more bad weather! (View Post…)

EASTER

Yesterday I was online a lot of the afternoon, doing genealogy research, with no problem. Last night when I tried to blog, I couldn’t get connected. Go figure. Yesterday from 5:00 til 8:00, there was a little art show and a DJ at the pool bar here at t…

ENVOY BACK IN THE WATER AT MARMARIS

Envoy went back into the water on the 20th, just nine days after our return. The marina is very busy at this time of year, and that day about 30 boats were launched. Ours was at 2200hrs, and it was dark, chilly and drizzling. After Envoy had been hoist…
