Blue Water Marina Resort That clear Bahamian water! Our weather window held, and we departed University Cove on Thursday, Mar. 3 at first light, headed for Bimini. Our crossing was relatively smooth despite having NNE winds around 10 kts. As crossings go, the rule of thumb is not to make one […]
University Cove We departed Lauderdale Wednesday Feb. 24th and headed south towards Miami. We decided to stop off at University Cove, just across from Baker’s Haulover Inlet. It’s a location that cruising acquaintances have mentioned, so we thought it would be worth a look. It’s a delightful spot situated between Florida International University […]

It’s a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what’s changed is you.” —F. Scott Fitzgerald
Our first week back in Texas was filled with sunshine, warm temperatures, the Texas Pearl and best of all family. The wind is still blowing like crazy in Florida and the Bahamas, so we are glad we made the decision to come home and catch up with family and friends.
Texas Pearl in her new permanent slip. I didn’t like it at first, but it’s growing on me.
We had the running gear cleaned before we headed out on a short cruise.
What a beautiful winter day.

Family time
We spent a wonderful weekend with our oldest son and his family. We had fun with Graham at the children’s museum in Austin called Thinkery.
Fun at a local farmers market in Austin. The day started out a little cloudy, but cleared up quickly.
Kyle and Brytanie have enjoyed Jester King Brewery for year, but this was our first visit…now we know why they enjoy it so much. A wonderful place to enjoy the day with great beer and wonderful pizza.
A few of our samplings
Only in Texas can you spend the day at a brewery and the whole family can have fun. This is a huge sand box for the children to play in and behind it is a pasture where people can play soccer, football or fly a kite.
Graham kept us entertained all the way home.
This peek-a-boo pelican is giving me the eye. Brown pelicans are so much fun to watch and photograph. From allaboutbirds.org: “The Brown Pelican is a comically elegant bird with an oversized bill, sinuous neck, and big, dark body. Squadrons glide above the surf along southern and western coasts, rising and falling in a graceful echo of the waves. They feed […]
