We were in Rincon for four nights. Our home for those nights was the Villa Cofresí Hotel. This was our resort stay of the trip and it was enjoyable. In 1965, Villa Cofresí became the first hotel in the area built right on the beach. It’s been a favorite for tourist and locals since they opened. The spacious open-air lobby overlooking the ocean welcomes guests into the hotel.

Feb. 7 – Gozalandia Falls

Today we ventured over to San Sebastián to hike to the Gozalandia Waterfalls. With the help of our trusty Waze app we had no problem finding it. Parking cost $5 dollars, which seemed very reasonable since the area has nice concrete trails, stairs, restrooms and a cute little cantina to enjoy something to drink and eat once you’ve worked up a thirst hiking to the two waterfalls.

Feb. 6 – Rincón, PR

We spent today exploring around Rincón. We walked to town this morning to check out the little shops, fruit stands and restaurants. We walked along the street going to town and then along the beach on the way home.
Going to the Movies

Feb. 5 – Rincon, PR

Today we left our little piece of paradise and headed further west. We took the back roads and drove through several small towns and close to A LOT of beautiful beaches. Unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time to check them all out today.
Our destination today was Rincon, but we stopped at several beaches in the Auadilla area on our way. We checked out Surfer Beach, Cueva Survival Beach and Borinquen Beach. They were all stunning and mostly empty…just the way we like it. We did a little beach combing and a little whale watching. We’ve been lucky enough the last few days to watch humpback whales breaching off shore. Puerto Rico falls within their migratory route to the North Atlantic, where they spend the summer.

Feb. 4 – Cueva Ventana

This morning we left the beach to hike and explore Cueva Ventana (Window Cave). It’s a cave situated atop a limestone cliff about 10 miles from our hotel. It overlooks the Rio Grande de Arecibo Valley. The guided tour enhanced the experience helping us to understand the ecosystem, sharing history of the caves, illustrating the diverse beauty of the plants and pointing out animals, birds and insects. This cave is fairly small, only 300 meters long, at the end is a window that opens up to an impressive view of the green mountains and the Rio Grande de Arecibo…it makes you feel like you’re on top of the world as you overlook the valley.
