Fjardlang

Fjardlang is one of forty nature reserves the Archipelago Foundation manages in the Stockholm Archipelago. The island has excellent trails throughout and several sheltered anchorages. The weather continued to be clear and calm as we proceeded north from Huvudskar. From near-freezing a few days earlier, the temperature had risen to 53°F (11.7°C) when we reached…

Huvudskar

Huvudskar is a fabulous anchorage on the outer edge of the Stockholm Archipelago. We’d so far seen only one pleasure craft underway since arriving in Sweden, let alone shared an anchorage, and had the place to ourselves for the first two nights. But despite its remoteness, Huvudskar is popular enough that as the weekend arrived,…

RETURN TO ENVOY NOW IMMINENT

Diane booked our fares yesterday and dealing with Emirates had no issues getting our travel arranged at short notice at good pricing with departure next Friday. We’ll spend one night in Dubai and one in Athens before catching the bus for the five hour …

Feathered Friends

We arrived at grandma’s house to find a momma robin sitting on her nest in the corner of the front porch. Dee Dee has been through the front door for a walk numerous times but she has never suspected a thing. On the other hand, the momma robin has kept a keen eye on us, flying away each time we exited and return to the house. Finally captured a picture of her.

Life at the Boatyard

Over the past two weeks, there has been a beehive of activity aboard Idyll Time while Philbrooks completed their list of projects. We were at the docks less than an hour when our (new) fresh water pump stopped working. We had just replaced this pump two weeks ago when the original water pump quit working. […]

Musko

During the Cold War, Sweden invested heavily in defense against a possible Soviet attack. One of the more ambitious projects was the Musko Naval Base, an underground base and shipyards on the island of Musko with docks designed for submarines and destroyers. To reach the island from the mainland, the navy built the 1.9-mile (3…

Nattaro

The island of Nattaro was our first anchorage in the famed Stockholm Archipelago cruising ground after our trip to Visby. The island is full of walking trials and beaches, particularly Storsand, the largest beach in the Stockholm archipelago and one of the nicest places to swim. With raw water freezing on the deck that mid-April…

Going Solo

This morning Mom and Dee Dee headed out to Tennessee for a visit with Grandma. Dad and Dylan and Dora will be staying on Red Head to finish up some projects. It’ll be 5 days with Dee Dee the sole crew member. She’s never been without the others for more than an hour or so. Will she bask in having the attention all to herself? She is a little diva. Or will she miss the rest of the crew and decide Dora isn’t so bad after all?

How are the other two crew members doing? We’re sure Dylan is fine. But we could hear Dora crying all the way out in the parking lot. Dad will have his hands full.

Living Aboard Comes to an End

The live aboard journey finally comes to an end.

This journey began in October of 2010 with a 6,150 mile adventure called the Great Loop, which began six months after I retired from The Warranty Group. The journey ended on February 1, 2019 with the …
